Should You Always Pee After Sex?
Dr Sarkar explains that while peeing after sex is not an absolute necessity, it is generally recommended for maintaining good hygiene, particularly for women. During sexual activity, bacteria can enter the urethra, which may increase the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs). Urinating after intercourse helps flush out these bacteria before they have a chance to multiply, thereby reducing the likelihood of infections.
Beyond UTI prevention, peeing after sex offers other health benefits. It helps remove excess moisture in the genital area, which can contribute to the growth of yeast and bacteria, potentially leading to infections. It can also relieve discomfort or irritation caused by friction during intercourse, reducing the risk of burning sensations. Additionally, post-sex urination assists in flushing out debris that may have entered the vagina or urethra, helping to maintain overall vaginal health.
Dr Sarkar further explains that peeing after intercourse plays a role in restoring and balancing the vaginal pH, which is crucial for preventing infections and promoting good reproductive health. While some people may not feel the immediate urge to urinate after sex, those who are prone to infections may find it beneficial to do so as a preventive measure. In some cases, maintaining proper intimate hygiene, including post-sex urination, may also contribute to lowering the risk of bladder-related issues, including bladder cancer.
Ultimately, while it is not a strict requirement, incorporating this practise into one’s routine can support overall sexual and reproductive well-being.

Does Peeing After Sex Help Prevent Pregnancy?
Some individuals focus on increasing their chances of conception, while others take steps to prevent pregnancy. In both cases, people may wonder whether urinating after sex has any impact on fertility.
However, peeing after sex does not influence the chances of pregnancy. This is because urination and ejaculation involve entirely separate anatomical pathways. When a person with a penis ejaculates during penetrative intercourse, sperm is released into the vaginal canal, which leads to the cervix and eventually the uterus.
On the other hand, urine is expelled from the urethra, a completely different opening in the body. This means that no matter how quickly one urinates after intercourse, it will not wash away sperm or prevent conception.
