We all know the surprising health benefits of consuming seeds. Don’t we? Chia, flax and pumpkin seeds are beneficial for skin, hair and a healthy body. However, some seeds are dangerous for your health. Did you know? It is for our own understanding to differentiate between the good and bad seeds. Are you consuming the right seeds? Or what should be avoided at all costs? Let’s discuss more in detail. Consuming these seeds in excess can aggravate serious health problems. That’s not all; some seeds have life-threatening effects on your health. Dietician Simran Saini from Fortis Hospital has been throwing light on the adverse effects of seeds.
Expert Tip
“Flax seeds and chia seeds are good for our health. These seeds are rich in omega 6 fatty acids. Consuming too much of chia and flax seeds can cause dyslipidemia,” said Simran Saini. She further added, “Excess amount of fiber can damage our intestines.” Stop consuming too much of it. “This problem arises due to higher cholesterol levels and is considered dangerous for the people suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases,” Saini pointed out. In all probability, unhealthy lifestyle is responsible for this disease. In some cases, it is genetic also. “Apple seeds contain cyanide acid which leads to stomach issues and causes cause mood swings,” she told.
What Is Cyanide?
This reminds us of Sridevi. In her 2017 movie ‘Mom’, she is seen taking revenge from one of the rapists through apple seeds. Do you remember? Well, apple is considered to be the most beneficial, but the apple seeds can cause serious effects to your health. Apple seeds contain emigadalina, which releases cyanide after getting in contact with digestion enzymes. These seeds are naturally hard to break. Emigadalina contains cyanide and sugar which transforms into hydrogen cyanide after consumption. This cyanide acid is life-threatening. Yes, you read it right. Even small amount of apple seeds can cause headache, nausea, weakness and stomach cramps. In nutshell, remove all the seeds before eating apple.
How Does Cyanide Work?
Cyanide works as a poison. Higher consumption of cyanide acid can immediately crop up breathing problems, low blood pressure and higher pulse rate. Is it possible to survive after consuming too much of cyanide? Yes, it is but the impact of cyanide acid remains on the brain and heart. Apple seeds aren’t the only thing you should be avoiding right away. Apricots, cherries and plum seeds are equally harmful. These fruits also contain some amount of cyanide acid. 200 apples are equivalent to 1 cup of apple seeds. It is sufficient enough to generate poisonous elements in our body.
