Yes! After a long wait, the monsoon is finally here. It’s that time of the year that makes us nostalgic. It reminds us of our ‘happy go lucky’ childhood days, playing crazily in the rain and coming back wrapped in the mud. Somehow, as a kid, we always thought that adults are just monsoon spoilers with their list of do’s and don’ts ready as soon as we thought of stepping out in the rain. But now, everything that we were constantly refrained from doing, had a reason behind it. Because it’s not just humans that love the rains; plants, animals, mosquitoes, bacteria and viruses, they all love it equally. So here are some tips shared by Dr. Vasha Dalal, Consultant Pathologist at Lifeline Laboratory, that will let you and your kids have fun with the monsoon, without being a spoiler.
Wear Light Coloured Sleeves
You don’t see them, doesn’t mean they haven’t arrived. The mosquitoes are back, loaded with dengue, chikungunya and other viruses. So whenever out, wear light coloured full sleeve clothing and use mosquito repellents.

Ditch Street Food
As much tempting as it may sound and look, avoid street food and water as much as possible. Anything cooked in the unhygienic environment takes a toll on your gut.
Drink Lots Of Water
Drink lots of water as humidity makes our blood thick and concentrated, making us prone to dehydration.

Boiled Water
Keep a check on water-borne diseases like typhoid, cholera, and jaundice by drinking clean, boiled water.
No Wet Socks
Avoid staying in wet socks, shoes or clothes for long as they make one susceptible to catch an infection.
Joint Pain Exercises
All arthritic patients know that monsoon is a bad time for the joints. The atmospheric pressure falls due to rain, causing an increase in joint pressure. This, along with the thick fluid (due to dehydration) aggravates the pain in joints. So, rather than medicines, go for regular joint exercises and physiotherapy.
No AC
Avoid air-conditioners as they precipitate infections and joint pains due to sudden temperature change.
Food To Eat & Avoid
Eat in moderation, cut down on caffeine, and try to keep your body toxin-free by consuming buttermilk, yogurt, and herbal tea.
