2022 might not be the best year for theatrical releases of many Indian films. However, it was the year when the audience debated about the plotlines, VFX and costumes. There were many films, both in theatres and OTT, that impressed us with their fashion picks.

In many movies, people loved a few looks so much that they recreated them with budget-friendly options available on e-commerce websites. Let’s take a look at the films where we could not keep our eyes off the costumes.

Jugjugg Jeeyo

Starring Neetu Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Varun Dhawan and Anil Kapoor, Jugjugg Jeeyo was a trendsetter. Advani’s clothes sure made all the heads turn around, but Kapoor’s costumes were refreshing. It was like a breath of fresh air to see an actor in his60s playing a significant role.

Advani’s ethnic and western looks were much appreciated by the audience. Many women took inspiration from Kapoor to slay at weddings, wearing suits inspired by her character.

Maja Ma

In Maja Ma, we saw Madhuri Dixit playing the role of a lesbian who hid her truth from her husband, kids, friends and family. She was much appreciated for taking on such a role and playing it with such simplicity and grace.

The movie shows Dixit as a homemaker and dancer. She was quite often spotted wearing graceful sarees with threadwork, mirror work and intricate embroidery.

Ponniyin Selvan - I

Ponniyin Selvan - I was among the biggest blockbuster hits of 2022. The periodic drama made headlines not only for earning over ₹500 crores but also for its costumes, hair and makeup.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha Krishnan were mostly spotted in elegant silk sarees with heavy makeup and hair tied in neat buns. However, in a few scenes, we saw Bachchan in a saree with minimal makeup and open hair. It is one of the looks that you can easily copy for a small traditional gathering.

Sita Raman

In Sita Raman, actor Mrunal Thakur played a princess, and she was a sight to behold in ethnic wear. The actor wore an array of outfits ranging from stylish sarees to suits and lehengas.

Gehraiyaan

Starring Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday, Gehraiyaan had the actors in casual outfits. Though Padukone was mostly seen in gym wear, in a few scenes, she nailed dresses and casual outfits like a boss lady. We specifically loved them in a get-together scene at a farmhouse in Alibaug near Mumbai.

Brahmastra

Brahmastra saw many ups and downs since the day its shooting began. It got delayed for several years, and when it was finally released, social media users boycotted the film.

Though it entered the ₹100 crore club, the movie faced backlash because of its dialogues and plotline. However, it shined in terms of costumes, Alia Bhatt, who played Isha, truly pressed the buttons of the fashion enthusiasts with her chic costumes.

Bhatt’s fans loved some of her looks in the film, and soon, e-commerce was flooded with pocket-friendly dupes to recreate her looks.
