Wedding Stylist Meha Bhargava Shares 2019 Trends And More In This Exclusive Chat

Wedding styling and personal shopping is a new concept in India but it is growing. For this, let's thank stylists like Meha Bhargava who are constantly working to change the wedding styling game. Meha, CEO and Founder, Style.Inc is a specialist in style, personal shopping and image management. Her firm offers a specialized service to cater to bridal styling, personal shopping, and corporate styling. Her team has collaborated with the key couture designers, make-up and hair professionals, accessory designers, trousseau packers and wedding vendors to create an enviable resource pool. We had a quick chat with her and got to know more about her journey, her challenges, and her favourite fashion trends. 

From studying fashion to starting a wedding consulting firm, you have come a long way. How did it go?

I studied Fashion Communication in Delhi, and fashion magazines have always found my keen interest. I gained experience in different body management, while grooming and communication became my forte. Wedding styling and personal shopping is still a  new concept in India but it is growing at a fast pace.  With busy lifestyles and the access and availability to various international and designers, everyone wants the most happening day of their lives to be extraordinary.  Our firm works to deliver unparalleled expertise in bridal styling, personal and trousseau shopping as well as corporate styling. 

What all challenges did you face?

Image Consulting was a very nouveau field when I started in roughly in August 2012. Its parallel to Fashion Styling and its manifold elements in grooming a person physically and mentally struck a chord with me and I knew it was my calling, hence followed my training and establishing my own company. We had our share of struggling to educate the masses on what we actually did, but slowly the market is warming up to us and now we help people from all walk of life, giving them a sense of confidence in the way they dress and in return how they feel, act and how others react to them. Similarly Wedding Styling, our new vertical is also something at a nascent stage, but we are trying to make this concept known and helping people style and dress better for their big day!

What approach do you follow when styling someone?

Styling someone is all about the image. So, there are particularly 4 elements that I follow while styling someone; dressing, grooming, styling, and communication skills. Dressing further depends on three elements; body type, colour palette, personal style, which is bracketed under wardrobe analysis. While grooming focuses on looks through basics of hair and make-up. A large part of styling also depends on body language.

How do you define style?

Well, style for me is comfort with an edge. I am someone who battles with weight, and hence my style revolves around the extra pounds I might have gained or lost! But having said the guards are never down, and being a self-proclaimed shoe-acholic I sort off never have a Shoe-Oops moment.

What are your favourite fashion trends?

I don’t follow fashion trends as they don’t do justice to all body types. I do appreciate the trend of straight fit trousers, palazzos, flared and high-waist pants as they work on all body types. Others are denim on demim, colour blocking and head to toe neutrals.

Which colour do you think is going to rule the summer weddings 2019?

Coral colours! Coral is a cheery tone that's perfect for weddings. Coral is a fantastic hue to incorporate into a sunny summer wedding. Talking of Bollywood, who do you think has the best sense of style?

Amongst actresses, I really like Kareena Kapoor’s sense of style as she can slip into any trend and own it. 

What styling advice would you give to our readers?

My golden rule is to stop following styling trends blindly. Be real and think about what suits you, your body type and personality. I think this is the only advice I’d like to pass on.
