Riya Desai said, “One should understand that when there's a sugar craving it is a sugar craving, meaning anything sweet which does not necessarily have to be a dessert. One can easily manage the sugar craving by eating a fruit or dried fruit or 2-3 pieces of dark chocolate.”

Understand Your Cravings

There are several times we tend to mistake our sugar cravings to be the need for dessert. Thus, we tend to consume dessert to satisfy our sugar cravings. Look For Alternatives

Consuming sugar (replace regular sugar with coconut sugar) doesn’t necessarily mean opting for white sugar. You can look for sugar alternatives which are much healthier than white sugar. You can go for jaggery, honey, sherbet, and syrups that also contain sugars.

Avoid Refined Flour

We think sugar (what is diabetic diet) is only about white sugar that we consume in tea or coffee. But simple carbohydrates like maida and processed products also contain sugar. Thus, it is advisable to choose complex carbohydrates like millet, whole grains, and oats as they contain essential fibre, vitamins and minerals. Hence, one can slowly cut down on the intake of simple carbohydrates, sugar-rich beverages, bakery products, and processed foods with healthier alternatives like whole grain or millet-based items like millet crackers, puffs, nuts, legume or sprouts chaat or salads, yoghurt, healthy smoothies, whole fruits, etc.
