For many of us, food is something we depend on for different moods. When we are happy we go for pizzas or our favourite dishes. When under stress, we head for all sinful cravings like ice cream buckets and cakes, and anger makes many of us binge on cheese induced snacks. But a number of times, we do not realise, that we reach out for the wrong food since they are not just unhealthy but also they do nothing to eliminate that mood we are enduring. So here is a list of snacks, desserts, and dishes that will not just help you calm down but will also give you less guilt later.
Cranky: Apple with Peanut Butter
If you are in a snappy mood, yelling at people for no reason or overreacting then my friend you need help with your cranky attitude. Have something which will not give you a sugar rush as that sets the cranky emotions back in motion. Have a combination of foods that have proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
Apple and peanut butter make a very good combination here. Peanut butter is a healthy fat and apple is made of healthy carbohydrates. This combo makes for the perfect powerhouse food item which not only provides you with the right nutrients but also tastes delicious.
Stress: Chocolates
If you are marred by stress due to several reasons which could be your work from home, kids, family issues and you are hungry then chocolates are your best friends. These bars which could also be milk chocolates or dark are said to reduce the stress hormones in the body. According to a study by researchers in Switzerland, published in the Journal of Proteome Research, a little bit of dark chocolate can "lower the stress hormones cortisol and catecholamines in the body", which reduces anxiety and calms you down.
Low Concentration Level Or Sluggish: Spinach Salad
Yes yes, it is not a dish that everyone likes but we all know that it is healthy. If concentrating on something is a problem for you right now and you feel lethargic then a salad made with spinach is the way to be. This green leafy vegetable has Folic acid which helps your body in processing and also lowers homocysteine levels. These levels are when high, damage the blood vessels, and this may leave you feeling sluggish. You could also have cereals, potatoes, fortified bread, and mushrooms.

Angry: Green Tea
Is the work atmosphere giving you a temper off late? Family getting onto your nerves? Anger is something some of us can control but the rest can have major issues dealing with it. To calm down, all you have to do is either count till 100 which does not work for me or sip on some green tea. A cuppa of this tea has theanine, that helps in calming the nerves and helps in clearing your mind. It works on your focus and concentration abilities when anger is dominant.
Sad: Whole-Grain Cereal with Low-fat Milk
Missing someone, regretting something, reminiscing old memories when you were happy? Boost some happiness into you with food but the right kind! Make a bowl of low-fat milk mixed with whole-grain cereal for yourself as the combination has nutrients that produce serotonin. This is a feel-good hormone that helps you feel calm, happy, and relaxed.
PMS: Egg-Salad Sandwich
Make your go-to PMS meal, a comforting dish like an egg salad sandwich. lt balances the carb craving we have during periods. Carbs boost serotonin levels, which improve your mood. It is best to stay away from high-sugar, fatty carbohydrates, like chips, doughnuts that make us feel dull and slow. Have whole grains, and pair with sunflower seeds, eggs or turkey.
