Fruits are an amazing snack but then they need to be fresh! Canned fruits look convenient but they are extremely unhealthy. They do not contain the usual nutrients, and in fact, have added sugars. The cans are lined with chemical preservatives. I can of canned peaches has 100 calories and the sugar content can be as much as 22 grams.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

These are a weakness and it does not take us time to finish the packet while chit chatting with our friends. Did you know how fattening and unhealthy these are? With 210 calories in just one cookie, it’s best to stay away. 1 cookie has 210 calories, with fat content being 10 grams, 170 mg of sodium and 19rams of sugar.

Besides the rumours of pink slime doing the rounds, our favourite nuggets have a lot of fat (including saturated fat). Also, the sodium in the nuggets is a major no-no for children. 5 pieces of these nuggets have276 calories, 17.7 grams of fat and 483 mg of sodium.

Pastries

Another food item devoid of any kind of nutritional value is a pastry. It is nothing but oodles of bleached white flour, high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated palm oil. A pastry has 340 calories, 14 grams of fat and 340 mg of sodium.

Chocolate Peanut Butter

Chocolate and peanut butter are a delicious combination, but the calories, fat and sugar content in this one is through the roof. And we all know that we will not just have one spoon of it! Try a chocolate peanut butter smoothie bowl instead. Half a cup of chocolate peanut butter has 340 calories, 23 grams of fat, 22 grams of sugar and 85 grams of sodium.

Creamy Peanut Butter

Yes, peanut butter can be good for you, but not all peanut jars of butter are the same. Hydrogenation is a chemical process that converts liquid vegetable oil into solid fat – unnecessary for peanut butter. Check the labels – PB really only needs peanuts and salt. Yes, you’ll have to stir it, but it’s so worth it, and once you make the switch, you’ll never go back. 2 tablespoons of peanut butter are 190 calories, 16 grams of fat and 135 grams of sodium.

Popcorns In A Bag

While popcorn in general is not bad for you, the lining of microwave popcorn bags includes substances such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a chemical the EPA lists as a carcinogen that has been linked to infertility and cancer. In addition, many brands include trans fats – and just look at all that sodium! 1 bag of butter popcorns has 540 calories and 930 mg of sodium.
