Vande Bharat is one of India’s deluxe trains first launched in February 2019 covering New Delhi to Varanasi. Over the years, the train units have surged to over 50 and routes have expanded to 45. Following the success of these rapid and luxurious chair car trains, the Railway Ministry of India is all set to launch a range of Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains in 2024. Keep reading to know more.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains Launch On 15th August 2024
On June 15, 2024, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw broke the news of the much-awaited launch of Vande Bharat sleeper trains. He announced that the trans will roll out on August 15, 2024, featuring high-end technology and aesthetic and luxurious interior and exterior designs. He added that Indian Railways has planned to expand the number of Vande Bharat sleeper trains up to 250 by 2029.
He said, “The Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains designed by BEML prioritise both aesthetic appeal and functionality in their interiors, sleeper berths, and exteriors. From the front nose cone to interior panels, seats and berths, interior lights, couplers, gangways and beyond, every element is meticulously designed to meet the exacting standards of the sleeper trainset.
“The completion work of the trainset of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is in full swing and the first train will be on track within two months. All technical works are in the last phase. The trainset is manufactured by BEML Ltd at its rail unit in Bangalore. The much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper version will provide easy mobility to commuters and offer various comforts in the near future with global standards.”

Vande Bharat Sleeper Features
India’s first native semi-high-speed train, Vande Bharat Express will soon get its range of sleeper trains with high-tech features, passenger-friendly functions, and aesthetic designs. Beating Rajdhani Express, its speed will be 160 kmph and tested at 180 kmph. Manufactured by BEML, the train will feature 16 coaches, including 11 AC 3 tier coaches, 4 AC 2 tier coaches, and 1 AC 1st coach. With increased comfort and more convenient ladders to climb the middle and upper berths, the train will incorporate a noise cancellation system, sensor-driven lighting, and special toilets and berths for differently-abled individuals. More features are yet to be revealed.
