"Revolution is an inalienable right of mankind. Freedom is an imperishable birthright of all." Golden words by the great freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh but wresting freedom from the clutches of the British came at a great price for India. Many wars have been fought since then and our country has various memorials and forts that serve as a reminder of the rule of different dynasties and our struggle for independence. So when you want to feel like a true Indian again and again, do visit these places to ignite your patriotic fervour. Make this Republic Day special.
One is a war memorial dedicated to 70,000 soldiers of British Indian Army who died in the First World War and Afghan Wars. Another was the main residence of the Mughals. The magnificent arch of India Gate mentions the names of 13,218 people who died in the war and located below the arch is the Amar Jawan Jyoti, the eternal flame that burns for soldiers who died during the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. Every year, the Republic Day ceremonies pass the India Gate while the flag is hosted with great patriotic fervour at the Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was built when Emperor Shah Jahan shifted his capital to Delhi. The well-preserved Red Fort is a sight to behold as it resonates the grandeur of an era gone by.
