Cleanliness is a way of life in Mawlynnong Village! People have installed bamboo dustbins outside their house to collect the waste and use it as manure later. Smoking, as well as the use of plastic, is strictly banned in this village. If someone throws garbage on the road, heavy fine is imposed on that person.
Women Empowerment
Mawlynnong is primarily inhabited by the Khasi tribe, the famous tribe which has left behind the patriarchal rule of the society. In here,the children inherit the last names of their mothers, and the family inheritance is passed down from the mothers to their daughters.
