Endangered Species Like The One-Horned Rhino

Assam’s Kaziranga National Park is a World Heritage Site and it hosts two-thirds of the world’s great one-horned rhinoceroses. In 1975, one-horned rhinos were almost extinct with only 600 of them remaining in the jungles of Nepal and India. Here you can take a safari tour and while you see elephants, wild water buffaloes, swamp deers and a wide variety of birds, you can also oggle at the hard work put in at this National Park.

Handicraft

North-East India is home to a number of tribes and these tribes have a rich handicraft tradition of their own. Bamboo works are widespread in the region. Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura have some very skilled bamboo craftsmen, who make beautiful screens, lamp stands, furniture and baskets among other things.

While Manipur is known for gold and gold plated jewellery, Assam and Meghalaya are famous for their silk textiles. Sikkin on the other hand is known for its carpet weaving and when it comes to potter, it is a commonly practised craft in some of these states.

Located in Manipur, the Loktak Lake has fresh water and is also known as the floating lake due to the floating phumdis on it. Interestingly, the Apatani tribe of Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh has developed its own unique sustainable methods of farming. You can also go visit the Khangchendzonga National Park in Sikkim.

Another highlight of Arunachal is that the state is dotted with several seminal Buddhist monasteries.
