The visionary fashion designer Rohit Bal, who played a significant role in revolutionising India’s couture landscape, took his last breath today. The Indian fashion fraternity is mourning the loss of a legend today.

Having set high standards for the coming generations and having inspired some, the legendary fashion designer Rohit Bal leaves behind a legacy of elegance, sophistication, and timeless beauty. His designs were popular for their breathtaking qualities, intricate craftsmanship, and his passionate commitment to Indian heritage.

As per reports, he was facing some heart-related health issues and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram last year too. However, he was expectedly recovering and also made a breathtaking comeback at the Lakme Fashion Week after returning to work earlier this year. He reportedly left the world at the age of 63 after a prolonged illness.

Famously and adorably known as Gudda, the fashion designer’s work showcased on the ramp of Lakme India Fashion Week last month in Delhi was like a fresh breath of air. Sharing the sad news on Instagram, the FDCI handle wrote, “We mourn the passing of Legendary designer Rohit Bal. He was a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations. His legacy of artistry and innovation along with forward-thinking will live on in the fashion world… Rest in peace GUDDA… You are a legend.”

According to a report shared by India Today, the cremation ceremony for Rohit Bal will be held at the Lodhi Road Crematorium in Delhi at 5 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Sharing another post on behalf of Sunil Sethi, FDCI, the post read, “I have known ROHIT BAL, whom we all lovingly call ‘Gudda’ for more than three decades, his passing away will leave a void in the fashion design space forever. Everyone admired him for his attention to detail, how beautifully his lotus bloomed on modern shapes and his understanding of what modern women desired. Rohit changed the lexicon of fashion! He was the front runner in more ways than one— he led from the front, his clothing withstood the test of time and tide — just like him.”
