Jonathan Majors 'Heartbroken' as Robert Downey Jr Takes Over as Dr Doom in MCU

In a twist worthy of a comic book cliffhanger, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has pulled off its most dramatic character swap yet. Jonathan Majors, once poised to be the next big bad as Kang the Conqueror, finds himself on the sidelines as Robert Downey Jr steps into the villainous spotlight as Doctor Doom. This shocking turn of events has left fans buzzing and Majors admittedly "heartbroken.”

Majors Reacts to Downey Jr Replacing Him as MCU Villain

In an encounter with TMZ, the actor didn't sugarcoat his feelings on the matter. "Yeah, heartbroken. Of course," he confessed, his voice tinged with disappointment. But like a true comic book aficionado, he could not help but show a little admiration for his replacement's character, saying, "I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though."

Majors' exit from the MCU arrived due to legal issues. In December, he was convicted of two misdemeanour counts for harassment and assault, which Marvel dropped him faster than Thor's hammer. Then there was also the scraping of the 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty' project to give way to an ominously titled 'Avengers: Doomsday' with Downey as the iconic Dr Doom.

The irony wasn't lost on many, including TMZ, which also notes that Downey himself isn't a stranger to legal missteps, with arrests and probation in the late '90s. However, the 'Iron Man' star got a second chance that revitalised his career and helped launch the MCU as we know it.

Majors, quite graceful, reflected: "I think that's only fair that Mr Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love. and [he's] being allowed to work [his] art and be creative at that level. I didn't really get that."

However, the controversy has not dented a bit of Majors' interest in the character of Kang. He exclaimed, "Hell yeah! Hell yeah! I love him. I love Kang. If that's what the fans want, and that's what Marvel wants then let's roll. Hell yeah."

Jonathan Majors Controversy

It all began when Marvel was involved in an incident in March 2023 with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The allegations describe the scene of a heated argument that escalated to physical violence, leaving Jabbari with injuries, and ended with Majors being arrested and put on trial.

On some counts, Majors was found guilty, but on others, he was not. Still, the career damage was swift and severe; management and publicity teams jettisoned him.
