Jiah Khan Suicide Case Verdict Out, Sooraj Pancholi Acquitted By CBI Court

The much awaited Jiah Khan suicide case’s verdict is finally out. It comes almost 10 years after she was found dead at her residence. A special CBI court pronounced its verdict on Friday April 28, 2023. Read on.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai gave out its verdict in late actor Jiah Khan’s suicide abetment case. Actor Sooraj Pancholi who was accused of abetting Jiah Khan’s suicide was acquitted by the esteemed court in the case. He was present at the CBI court for the hearing when the verdict was declared.

The judge AS Sayyed of the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai was quoted saying, “Due to paucity of evidence, this court can't hold you (Sooraj Pancholi) guilty, hence acquitted.”

Jiah Khan, who was most famous for starring in the Bollywood movie, ‘Nishabd’ opposite Amitabh Bachchan was found dead at her residence in Mumbai on June 3, 2013 at the age of 25. Based on a letter that was seized a week later, which was apparently written by her, the Mumbai Police had charged Sooraj Pancholi under Section 306(abetment to suicide) in the case and he was put behind the bars for the same. In the letter Jiah Khan had allegedly written her heart out about her troubled relationship with actor Sooraj Pancholi detailing the fact that she was physically and mentally abused by him.

Despite Sooraj’s bail plea being rejected by a Mumbai court, Pancholi was granted bail after he signed a bond of ₹50,000 on July 1, 2013. The following day on July 2, the court had acquitted Sooraj and said that he was not accountable for Jiah Khan’s suicide. Not satisfied with the court’s judgement, the late actor’s mother Rabia Khan requested the court for a detailed and thorough investigation in the matter. It was around a year after Jiah Khan’s death that the Bombay High Court transferred the case from Mumbai Police to the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI). After all the trials and tribulations over a decade the final verdict is out acquitting actor,Sooraj Pancholi in the matter.
