Anshuman Gaekwad, a former Indian cricket legend passed away on Wednesday at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Anshuman debuted as a cricketer for India in 1974 and that’s where his international cricket journey began. Known for his strong defensive skills, the right-handed batsman often opened the innings and also played 40 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India, amassing 1,985 runs in Tests and 269 runs in ODIs.
His contributions as a coach saw India achieve notable victories, bagging the second-place finish at the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy. His accomplishments marked his position as a capable strategist and mentor in the cricketing fraternity.

After his retirement from international cricket, Anshuman transitioned to coaching where he served as a head coach of the Indian cricket team from 1997 to 1999. During his tenure as a coach, India won the Independence Cup in 1998 and secured a historic Test series victory against Australia the same year.
