Summer season is all about sundresses, relaxing on the beach, and relishing mangoes. Along with the golden summer glow, your skin is likely to suffer. Due to immense sweat, dust, and sebum production, your skin’s quality may deteriorate. Additionally, if you have oily and acne-prone skin, prepare with an effective skincare regimen.
To know more about this we spoke to Kiran Bhatt, Cosmetologist and the Vice President at Junoesque. Follow the summer skincare routine suggested by her to manage the sebum production and prevent breakouts.
Summer Skincare Routine For Oily And Acne-Prone Skin
Cleansing
Begin your skincare regime with a mild foaming cleanser with salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, as these ingredients help unclog pores and reduce acne. Wash your face twice a day to get rid of sweat, dirt, and impurities.
Toning
Use an alcohol-free toner with ingredients like hazel or tea tree oil to cleanse your skin deeply. Our expert says, “Toning helps in maintaining the pH level of your skin and removes residual impurities post-cleaning. It contains ingredients possessing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which are beneficial for acne-prone skin.”
Treatment
Opt for treatments like chemical peels, blue light therapy, microneedling, and hydra facia for acne-prone and oily skin. “These treatments help reduce oil, unclog pores, and improve skin texture,” suggests our expert.
Moisturising
Use an oil-free and non-comedogenic moisturiser as avoiding it can result in increased oil production. For oily skin, use gel-based or lightweight moisturisers to hydrate skin without clogging pores.

Sun protection
Sunscreens are essential to shield your skin from harmful UV rays as they can worsen your acne. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (Applying Sunscreen: Guide) with a non-comedogenic, oil-free formula to prevent clogging of pores.
Exfoliation
For oily and acne-prone skin, you are advised to use a gentle exfoliation with AHA like Lactic acid or BHA like salicylic acid twice a week to remove dead cells, unclog pores, and control excess oil production.
Additionally, drinking plenty of water can help you keep your skin hydrated and glowing. Our expert suggests, “Maintain a healthy balanced diet and limit dairy and sugar products. Always stick to your skincare as prescribed by a dermatologist and visit your dermatologist regularly for personalised treatment.”
