Being a very special occasion for Hindu women, Karwa Chauth is not only about love celebration, it is also about looking good and feeling great. With age, your skin changes and thus begins the search for a skincare routine that tackles specific issues like dryness, fine lines, lack of elasticity, etc. Check out this simple yet effective skincare guide that can help women over 40 enjoy rosy, glowing skin as they celebrate Karwa Chauth this year, based on the tips shared by our expert, Dr Rupika Singh, MBBS, MD, Dermatologist and Founder of Akiya Aesthetics.
Hydration Is Key
Dr Singh said, “As we age, we lose more water from the skin; it dries out faster simply because our metabolism reduces. Drinking plenty of water is the key to keeping your skin hydrated throughout the festival. Some water-rich foods include watermelon, cucumber, and oranges. The better hydrated the body, the better the plumpness and radiance of the skin.”
Skincare Routine For Morning
In the morning, kick start your day with nourishing skincare to ensure that your skin is bright and shining throughout the festival.
Gentle Cleanser: “Use a lot of rich, oil-based cleaners rather than the drier goods, which suck the nutrients from the skin. Cleanse to remove makeup, wash away all the impurities that need to be taken away, and prepare your skin for the day,” said Dr Singh.
Anti-Ageing Serum: After cleansing your skin, apply an anti-ageing serum full of antioxidants and Vitamin C on your face. This will help in smoothing out your skin's texture and sorting out age spots or dullness.
Moisturiser With SPF:Preferably, you are advised to use a moisturiser containing SPF. “It will lock in moisture and protect your skin from the sun's rays while providing benefits to the skin from other aspects like stimulating collagen and maintaining the elasticity of your skin,” shared the doctor.

Mid-Day Refresh With Face Mist
“Hydrating face mist with rose water, aloe vera, or glycerin is a refreshing way to keep your skin renewed throughout the day. Carry it in your hand for quick spritzing on your face whenever you feel like giving your skin a little pick-up,” said Dr Rupika.
Evening Skincare: Repair and Renew
“Double cleanse: oil cleanse remover, then gentle foam to really clean. Then, serums: retinol is a highly potent anti-ageing ingredient that will reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation. After that, night moisturiser: apply one at night that really suits your skin and keeps you hydrated throughout the night. For maximum nourishment, seek ingredients which include squalane, argan oil, or peptides,” advised Dr Singh.
