Dr Rohan Goyal explains, “However, high blood pressure typically starts from a combination of lifestyle, dietary, genetic, and metabolic factors. Simply eating bananas without looking after other requirements such as high salt preference, lack of physical activity, excessive alcohol use, and stress will have only a slight effect.”

According to Dr Rohan Goyal, bananas can be beneficial for people dealing with high blood pressure. “Bananas are rich in potassium which is an essential mineral that helps regulate blood pressure by balancing the negative effects of sodium. The nutrients contained in a banana benefits in relaxing blood vessel walls and encourages the kidneys to excrete excess sodium through urine, both of which can lead to lowering blood pressure,” she explains. However, she also highlights that bananas are not a cure for hypertension.

Dr Rohan Goyal says, “A medium banana typically has around 400-450 mg of potassium and an adequate potassium intake has been linked with reduced risk of stroke and improved heart health in several studies.” For Indian diets, bananas can easily be included in:
