Turkish dramas have spread beyond Turkey's borders and amassed a large international fan base. From classic crime thrillers to cute romantic stories, here are a few of the best ones that you should add to your watchlist, whether you’re a fan already or are just dipping your toes in the water.
1. The Gift
The lead roles in this drama are played by Beren Saat, Mehmet Günsür, Melisa Şenolsun and Metin Akdülger. This Netflix original series is based on an Engül Boybaş novel and has been inspired by real-life events. It takes place at Göbekli Tepe, a prehistoric city in Anatolia, Turkey, where standing stones more than 11,000 years old have been found. The protagonist of the story is a young artist from Istanbul who has painted the same enigmatic symbol since she was a young child. When she learns that the symbol has been found at a location near Göbekli Tepe, her life is forever altered. This Netflix series was released in 2019 and ended in 2021 with 3 seasons.
2. Sen Çal Kapimi
The main character of this story is Eda Yldz, who hopes to pursue both education and a good profession. Serkan Bola, who she meets, offers to cover her living costs and educational costs in Italy in exchange for her pretending as his fiancée. She initially declines, but she ultimately consents after the contract is modified slightly. She demands that she work as Serkan's personal assistant as one of the terms for playing the role of his fiancée. It is also known as Love is in the Air and You Knock on My Door. 3. The Protector
The Protector series consists of Çağatay Ulusoy, Ayça Ayşin Turan, Hazar Ergüçlü and Okan Yalabık. The story is about Hakan Demir, who works at his adoptive father's antique store and aspires to open his own alongside his closest buddy. After his father is assassinated, and it is made known to him that he must join an underground Order that defends Istanbul (Checkout The Most Beautiful Mosques In The World) against an enemy, his world is turned upside down. He learns he has unique abilities that can help him in doing so. It is interesting to see how things move ahead in his life.

4. Aşk Laftan Anlamaz
One of the most loved and hit Turkish dramas of 2016 was Aşk Laftan Anlamaz. This drama is nothing less than a roller coaster ride. It is packed with romance, jealousy, a love triangle, and many ups and downs making it a perfect drama. It stars Burak Deniz as Murat Sarsılmaz and Hande Erçel as Hayat Uzun. 5. 20 Minutes
This popular Turkish show is ideal for thriller enthusiasts. The main character of this story is Ali who is working hard to establish his wife's innocence after she is detained on suspicion of attempting to kill the mayor's kid. Melek has a difficult time adjusting to life in jail as her husband works to piece together what happened the night she is accused of killing the victim. Shocking realities and secrets are revealed during Ali's research, leading him to doubt whether or not he truly knew his wife. It has 25 episodes and you can watch it on Netflix.
