The finale of 'Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen' uncovers a multi-generational supernatural curse that says, 'Anyone in Rachel's bloodline who marries someone who is not their soulmate will die on their wedding day after sundown.' As Rachel and Nicky prepare for their big day, the ceremony is not completed before sundown, and the curse gets triggered, shifting to Nicky's entire family.

The transfer of curse gets deadly when Nicky's mother, Victoria, and sister, Portia, bled to death as they were not married to their soulmate. To save his family, Nicky grows selfish and forces the ring onto Rachel after sunset, to which Rachel loses trust in him. Soon after the marriage, Rachel hemorrhages and dies, but the death triggers a loophole; the current 'Witness' Zlatko Burić dies, and Rachel is resurrected as the new immortal witness.

Now being the new 'Witness', Rachel is immortal and needs to witness all the future weddings in Nicky's bloodline to see if they survive or bleed to death. Starting with Nicky's nephew Jude, he marries Nell, and despite their toxic relationship, they survive being true soulmates in their own messy way.
