Mukesh Khanna, the actor known for his role as Shaktimaan, has officially announced the return of the OG superhero, much to the excitement of fans who grew up watching the show in the 1990s. The announcement was made through a teaser shared on his Instagram account.

In his social media post, Khanna wrote, “It’s time for HIM to RETURN. Our first Indian SUPER TEACHER—SUPER HERO. He returns with a message and a teaching for today’s generation. Welcome him with both hands!!!!!”
The teaser features the original superhero flying into a school setting and singing a patriotic song dedicated to Indian freedom fighters such as Chandrasekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, and Subhash Chandra Bose. Khanna sings, “Aazadi ke deewanon ne jung ladhi phir jaanein di, ang ang kat gaye magar anch watan par na ane di,” which translates to “The lovers of freedom fought for it and sacrificed everything but never let their homeland be taken away.”
While specific details about whether this revival will be a film or a series have not been confirmed, Khanna's dedication to bringing Shaktimaan back for a new generation is clear. The original show aired over 450 episodes on Doordarshan, making it one of the most popular superhero series in Indian television history.

The announcement has drawn mixed reactions from fans on social media. Many expressed excitement and nostalgia, while others raised concerns about how the new version will compare to the original. Comments varied from fond memories of childhood viewing experiences to worries about potentially damaging Shaktimaan's legacy. One user noted, “I missed school many times to watch this,” while another cautioned, “Please don’t ruin Shaktimaan.”
Shaktimaan originally aired from 1997 to 2005 and captured the attention of viewers with its mix of superhero action and moral lessons. The show became very popular, influencing both children and adults. Recently, there were rumours about a film adaptation featuring actor Ranveer Singh in the lead role. However, Mukesh Khanna dismissed these rumours and confirmed that Shaktimaan will return in a new format.
