If you missed the first season of ‘Andor’ on Disney+, you’ve probably still heard it praised as one of the finest ‘Star Wars’ series to hit the platform, and rightfully so. Now that the second (and final) season is here, you might be thinking it’s finally time to give the show a go. Whether you're jumping in for the first time or just need a quick memory refresh, we’ve got you covered.

‘Andor’ stood out from the rest of the ‘Star Wars’ lineup by focusing less on lightsabers and mystical elements, and more on the gritty reality of life under the Empire’s regime. It offered a grounded look at the struggles of everyday people living under authoritarian rule, which is exactly what made it a breakout success. Here’s a rundown of the key events from Season 1 to get you up to speed for what’s next.

‘Andor’ Season 1 Recap

A lot unfolds across ‘Andor’s’ gripping first season. Here's a breakdown of everything worth remembering:

Trouble on Morlana One

Set in 5 BBY, Cassian Andor is searching for his long-lost sister on Morlana One. A confrontation with two corporate officers spirals out of control and Cassian kills one by accident and the other to cover it up. He escapes to Ferrix, where his adoptive mother Maarva, along with friends Bix and Brasso, help shield him.

Meanwhile, the planet’s private security force, Pre-Mor, starts investigating. Although the chief inspector wants to brush it under the rug to avoid Empire scrutiny, ambitious deputy Syril Karn takes matters into his own hands. He follows the trail to Ferrix and issues a warrant for Cassian’s arrest. Before they can catch him, Cassian is rescued by mysterious rebel Luthen Rael, who urges him to join the growing resistance.

The Aldhani Heist

Cassian, using the alias “Clem,” is taken to Aldhani by Luthen to join a rebel team planning a bold heist: robbing an Imperial garrison. Despite tensions and heavy losses within the group, the mission succeeds. Only Cassian and Vel survive, and Cassian vanishes with his share of the loot. He briefly returns to Ferrix to try and get Maarva to flee with him, but she refuses—she’s committed to resisting the Empire.

Prison Break on Narkina 5

Cassian lays low on the resort world of Niamos, but is wrongly caught in a crackdown and sentenced to six years in a prison called Narkina 5. There, he and other inmates are forced to assemble components—later revealed to be for the Death Star. When they learn the Empire is secretly extending sentences and hiding prisoner deaths, Cassian leads a revolt. With a few others, he escapes the brutal facility.

The Ferrix Uprising

While Cassian is imprisoned, the Empire turns up the heat. ISB officer Dedra Meero zeroes in on the rebel network known as Axis, believing Cassian is the key to cracking it. They capture and torture Bix to locate him, and later use Maarva’s death to try and draw him out.

Luthen, Vel, and Cinta also arrive in Ferrix, hoping to kill Cassian before he can compromise their group. But the plan shifts during Maarva’s funeral. Her powerful pre-recorded message ignites the town, sparking a full-scale riot against the Empire. In the chaos, Cassian rescues Bix and urges Brasso to take her to safety. He later confronts Luthen, offering him a choice—kill him or take him in. Luthen smiles, accepting him as a true rebel.

‘Andor’s’ first season tells a deep and layered story that can stand alongside big-name shows like ‘Game of Thrones’ or The Vikings.’ Created by Tony Gilroy, the series takes us into the politics and personal struggles behind the Rebellion, showing that the fight against the Empire wasn’t just black and white. It’s not about heroes vs. villains but it’s about people making the best choices they can in a broken system. The visuals are stunning, and the writing gives real weight to every moment.

Season 2 is expected to wrap up these powerful character journeys in a meaningful way. If you’re a ‘Star Wars’ fan, there’s plenty to look forward to.

‘Andor’ Season 2 premieres on JioHotstar on April 22, 2025, with new episodes dropping every Tuesday.
