The power has finally shifted from the judging panel to the public in season 24 of ‘American Idol’. During the highly anticipated ‘songs of faith’ episode on March 30, 2026, the singing competition revealed its first set of audience-voted results. For the first time this year, the fate of the contestants didn't rest in the hands of Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. Instead, the viewers at home took total control.
Fans cast their votes using text messages, online submissions, and social media comments, judging the singers entirely on their performances from the recent ‘ohana week’. The stakes were incredibly high, as everyone tuned in expecting the show to slash the Top 20 straight down to a Top 12. However, live television rarely goes exactly to plan.

Rather than revealing the final dozen, the show left us with a Top 14. Presenters announced that only six singers would be going home on the night. The voting team still needs more time to tally the massive influx of numbers accurately, meaning the last two heart-breaking eliminations won't happen until the next live broadcast on April 6, 2026.
Before the nerve-wracking results dominated the screen, the celebrity judges decided to show the hopefuls exactly how it is done. Richie and Bryan opened the spectacular evening by performing a rousing cover of ‘Jesus Is Love,’ singing shoulder-to-shoulder with the entire Top 20.
Later in the broadcast, Underwood reappeared after a glamorous outfit change to sing ‘How Great Thou Art’. Dedicated viewers likely recognised the song choice, as she gave a stunning performance of the exact same track during last year’s faith-based episode. To make the moment even more special, she brought out season 23 platinum ticket winners Filo Ebid, Kolbi Jordan, and Canaan James Hill to share the spotlight.
