The auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to pay tribute to Lord Hanuman on his birth anniversary. The day is observed twice a year on Chaitra Poornima in southern India while the day is observed on Narak Chaturdashi or Krishna Paksh in the northern region.
Why Hanuman Jayanti Is Celebrated Twice A Year?
Astrologer Radhakant Vats shared his insights with HerZindagi on why Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated twice a year.
"Hanuman Ji was born on the day of Chaitra Poornima (full moon day in the month of Chaitra), which is why Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on this day. However, there is also a tradition of observing Hanuman Jayanti on Kartik Chaturdashi (the fourteenth day of the Krishna Paksh in the month of Kartik). This day is celebrated because it was on this day that Mother Sita bestowed the boon of immortality upon Hanuman Ji."
In simple terms, one date marks the birth of Hanuman Ji, while the other signifies the day when he attained the status of being revered as a divine entity.

Significance Of Hanuman Jayanti
According to the evidence provided by Maharishi Valmiki, people in northern India usually celebrate Hanuman Jayanti on Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi in the month of Kartika. As per the legends, Lord Shiva manifested himself as Lord Hanuman, born to Mother Anjana. Furthermore, he became the devoted assistant and ultimate devotee of Shri Ramji, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Hanuman acted as a guide and the best helper for Shri Ram Ji in defeating Ravana and reuniting with Sita.
Hanuman's birth anniversary is celebrated on the day of Nishith Kaal Vyapini Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi. Taking holy baths, making donations, and performing other religious works on this day holds special significance. On the day of Chaturdashi tithi, devotees wake up early in the morning and observe fasts to seek the blessings of Lord Hanuman. To gain his blessings, devotees offer jasmine oil and vermilion to Hanuman Ji on this day.
