History of Hanuman Jayanti

Hanuman Jayanti is commemorated as the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman was born to Anjana and Kesari. Other than Lord Hanuman, he is known by other names as well which include Vanara God, Bajrangbali, Vayu Dev, and Pawan Putra. Lord Hanuman was the biggest devotee of Lord Rama and Mata Sita. It is believed that Hanuman’s mother Anjana was an Apsara who was born on earth due to a curse. After she gave birth to Hanuman, she was redeemed from the curse.

Significance Of Hanuman Jayanti

The significance of Hanuman Jayanti lies in Lord Hanuman’s virtues such as courage, loyalty, and selflessness. Devotees believe that Lord Hanuman will protect them from all evil forces. Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated during Chaitra Purnima in North India. However, in Southern Indian states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is celebrated for 41 days which starts in Chaitra Purnima and ends on the tenth day during Krishna Paksha in Vaishakha month.

On this day, devotees visit the Hanuman temple and worship Lord Hanuman. Some people light a ghee or oil lamp in front of Lord Hanuman while some people observe fast on this day and offer sindoor. Devotees believe that Lord Hanuman will take away all their worries. People also chant Hanuman Chalisa 11 to 108 times and seek blessings from Lord Hanuman. Devotees also offer rose garland to Lord Hanuman, as it is believed that it is the easiest way to please Lord Hanuman.
