In a case related to money laundering, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is a part of an ongoing investigation. His alleged arrest is anticipated after questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
According to the reports, in a meeting with his MLAs, Hemant proposed that his wife, Kalpana Soren take over the charge in case of his arrest. Know about it in detail and who she is through this article.
Who Is Kalpana Soren?
Kalpana Soren hails from Odisha's Mayurbhanj. She and Hemant got married on February 7, 2006, and are parents to two children, Nikhil and Ansh.
She was born to her businessman father and homemaker mother in Ranchi (Waterfalls In Ranchi) in 1976. Soren completed her graduation in engineering and moved on to do an MBA.
Kalpana Soren is involved in multiple social causes like organic farming, running a school, and women and children empowerment, as per the sources.
If the rumours are true, Kalpana Soren cannot be sworn in as the Chief Minister as yet since she is not an MLA. First, she is required to become a member of the assembly by winning a by-election within six months.
However, according to the governmental rules of India (Understanding The Women's Reservation Bill), since the term of the assembly ends in less than a year, there is a possibility that a by-poll election may be ruled out.
But last month when a similar claim of her becoming the next Chief Minister was made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, Mr Soren himself dismissed it and denied the possibility of his wife contesting polls in the near future.
