Karan Johar is known for producing glamorous films and hosting several shows. However, the filmmaker has once again become the talk of the town as netizens are holding him and a few other star kids responsible for Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. While Karan took the blame for not being there for the actor in a heartfelt IG post, Sushant’s fans are blaming nepotism for his death.
“I blame myself for not being in touch with you for the past year..... I have felt at times like you may have needed people to share your life with...but somehow I never followed up on that feeling...will never make that mistake again...we live in very energetic and noisy but still very isolated times ...some of us succumb to these silences and go within...we need to not just make relationships but also constantly nurture them....Sushant's unfortunate demise has been a huge wake up call to me ...to my level of compassion and to my ability to foster and protect my equations.....I hope this resonates with all of you as well....will miss your infectious smile and your bear hug,” he wrote.

Speaking of nepotism, there have been several incidences when the director-producer was found practicing nepotism in the industry. One such incident was when the actress Simi Garewal accused Karan of trying to take over her job, back in 2017. Taking to her official Twitter handle, the veteran wrote, “After I finished hosting IFFM Awards @karanjohar told Festival Director 'Next year I want to host the awards'! Another takeover?!”
After I finished hosting IFFM Awards @karanjohar told Festival Director 'Next year I want to host the awards'! Another takeover?!🙄

The 2017 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne was hosted by Simi Garewal and Karan was among the audience just like several other stars including, Sushant Singh Rajput, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Raveena Tandon, Konkona SenSharma, Malaika Arora, Rahul Bose, Rajkummar Rao, Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari, Onir, Shootjit Sircar, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and many more.
Reportedly, the director spoke to the organisers of the film festival and showed interest in hosting the ceremony next year. This didn’t go down well with the veteran and she expressed her displeasure about the same on the social media platform. Just a few months before this incident took place, Kangana Ranaut sparked the debate about Karan practicing nepotism in the industry. And, just before the debate was on the verge of extinction, Simi Garewal triggered it again by specifically mentioning “another take over” in her tweet.

They both have hosted rival chat shows for years. There have always been speculations about them having a cold war. As per media reports, Karan’s show was initially called a more pepped up version of Simi’s talk show that started in 1997. Whereas, Koffee with Karan first aired in 2004.
The 72-year-old star’s fans showed immense support, given her repertoire and experience in the industry. “Simi has that touch of class and aura, to which Karan is no match ....in my opinion,” tweeted one. “Ma'am, you are the best You are unique. So the question of takeover does not arise. Lots of love and respect for your elegance and graceSmiling face with halo,” wrote another.
Besides all, Simi Garewal hosted a special screening of Shashi Kapoor’s 1972 film Siddhartha in 2018 at the film festival. Whereas, Karan probably didn’t attend the festival that year. However, in 2019 he hoisted the tricolour at the IFFM in Melbourne. During his addressal he said, “I’m excited to be celebrating this landmark year in my professional life at IFFM. It’s been a very rewarding 20 years of a journey and time well spent telling stories and having the freedom to be a storyteller.”
