One after the other, the cases of brutality against women are breaking us to the core. Till when will these perpetrators keep committing heinous crimes? We don't know how many victims will die seeking justice, just like this young girl from Unnao did.
A 23-year-old girl from Unnao filed a case in March where she accused two men, Shivam and Shubham of raping her last year. While this rape survivor was waiting for justice to be served and was on her way to the Rae Bareli court, she was abducted by 5 men and set on fire. Two of these 5 men were the rapists.
The hearings were going on all this while and the girl kept getting threats from Shubham, one of the accused who was released on bail.
The young girl ran for a km for help after she escaped and then called the police for help herself. She was beaten and stabbed with a knife by the five men.
She was airlifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi where she was treated. She had 90% burns on her body and was battling for life for around 40 hours. However, she couldn't survive and breathed her last at 11.40 pm yesterday.
“Will I make it out alive? Please save me,” these were the last words of the rape victim who was set on fire. Dr. Sunil Gupta, Medical Superintendent said, “She was conscious when she was brought here last night at 8 p.m. and was speaking, though very feebly. She told us repeatedly not to let the accused go free. She asked the doctors if she will make it out alive. She told them, “Save me, I want to live.”
The young girl showed such courage after she ran for almost a km for help. However, she died without getting justice.
The mortal remains of the victim are being taken to Unnao for the final rites. Victim's brother told that they will bury her body as there is not much left to bun in her body. She suffered from more than 90% burns.

Former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav is sitting outside the state assembly in protest. Akhilesh Yadav is demanding the resignation of CM Yogi Adityanath post the death of the 23-year-old girl from Unnao.
Akhilesh Yadav called it the worst phase of women safety in India. Talking to a journalist, he said, "This is an extremely condemnable incident. This is a black day. It is not the first such incident under this BJP government. The chief minister had said in this very assembly, 'apradhiyon ko thok diya jayega' (convicts will be shot), they could not save the life of a daughter."

pic.twitter.com/0wgbXg5MLG

How will justice be served? Another encounter or years of battle for justice? We wonder when will we have effective safety arrangements for women in India.
