One of the most fascinating inventions to come out of India is the world’s smallest vacuum cleaner this year in 2024. Tapala Nadamun, a 23-year-old architecture student from India’s National Institute of Technology Patna, created the world’s smallest vacuum cleaner. After two years of redesigning and refining the device, he broke the Guinness World Record with a vacuum cleaner measuring just 0.65 cm. The tiny vacuum is crafted mostly from parts of a refillable ballpoint pen, along with small pieces of plastic and metal. Inside, a miniature rotating fan powered by a four-volt vibration motor generates enough suction to pick up dust particles.

2. World's Smallest Satellite

In June 2017, 18-year-old Rifath Sharook from Tamil Nadu and his team made history when NASA launched the world's smallest satellite. Named Kalamsat in honor of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, the tiny satellite weighs just 64 grams. In an exclusive interview with ANI, he shared that, “It’s a 3D-printed satellite. It is for the first time that 3D printing technology is being used in space. We have made history. The world’s smallest satellite has been launched in space. It was not possible without my team.” The satellite was sent into space aboard a NASA-sounding rocket launched from the Wallops Island facility.

3. 3D Printed Sanitary Napkin Dispenser

In April 2017, three Class XII students from Mumbai’s Cathedral and John Connon School: Devika Malhotra, Malini Dasgupta, and Aditi Arya created an innovative 3D-printed dispenser designed to distribute sanitary napkins. The dispenser, built using a coil and light sensor mechanism, was developed to improve accessibility and ease of use for students in their schools. As reported by Indian Express, Aditi Arya shared, “We were aware that many girls don’t even have access to sanitary napkins and some even stay out of school during periods. Therefore, we decided to design a dispenser that can be built using 3D printing technology.”

Anang Tadar, a Class XI student from New Galaxy Academy in Nirjuli, was honored with the Dinanath Pandey Smart Idea Innovation Award for creating a device called Goggle for Blind (G4B). In March 2017, the State government also promised to provide financial support to help him further develop the gadget. In an interview with UNICEF Office of Innovation, he shared “Blind people wear goggles anyway, but unfortunately, they wear them to hide their eyes. Now I have created something to make the goggles useful.” The G4B allows blind individuals to navigate on their own, completely independently and without the need for hands.

These groundbreaking inventions not only have the potential to impact millions of lives but also underline the importance of nurturing young talent and encouraging creative thinking.
