India is known for its rich culture, hospitality, and diverse landscapes. However, incidents of violence against women continue to raise serious concerns about safety. In a span of just a few days, two horrific crimes have been reported—one involving a British woman in Delhi and another an Israeli tourist in Karnataka. These incidents highlight the persistent dangers that women, both foreign and local, face in the country.
British Woman Allegedly Raped By Instagram Friend In Delhi
A British woman, who travelled to Delhi to meet a man she met on Instagram, has accused him of raping her at a hotel in Mahipalpur. The accused, identified as Kailash, was arrested while his friend Wasim has been charged with molestation.
The victim had initially travelled to Maharashtra and Goa for a holiday. While there, she contacted Kailash, whom she had befriended online. Unable to visit her, Kailash invited her to Delhi instead. On reaching Delhi, she checked into a hotel and called Kailash, who arrived with his friend Wasim. That night, Kailash allegedly raped her.
The next morning, the woman filed a complaint at the Vasant Kunj police station. The British High Commission has been informed, and authorities are providing necessary assistance. Reports indicate that Kailash, who works at a private firm, struggled to communicate in English and used Google Translate to converse with the victim.
Israeli Tourist Gang-Raped In Karnataka
In another horrifying case, a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a homestay owner were allegedly gang-raped by three men in Karnataka’s Koppal district. The incident took place on a Thursday night when the victims were stargazing by a canal with three other travellers.
The attackers pushed the three male travellers into the canal before assaulting the women. Two of them, an American named Daniel and a traveller from Maharashtra named Pankaj, managed to escape, but a third, Bibash from Odisha, drowned. His body was recovered the next morning.
