Recently, Katrina Kaif made an appearance on Bigg Boss 16. Since then, she has been trending on social media because trolls have accused her of getting cosmetic procedures done on herself.

She is not the only actor who has opted for such a procedure and definitely not the only one who has been trolled for the same. Priyanka Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Salman Khan and so many others have eaten this bitter pill every now and then. But it is the female celebrities who are most often so mercilessly ridiculed and scrutinised by the media and the general public.

Twitter Reactions

Twitter is one of the prime social media platforms where trolls find it easy to hide behind their anonymity to target actors, women, and every other person who does not adhere to their ‘standards of living’.

A person shared a before and after image of Kaif and wrote, “Katrina Kaif from being one of the beautiful actresses to now after plastic surgery, lip fillers and botox.”

Another user used the same image and tweeted, “Katrina Kaif fans call her a barbie doll. And they’re right about that because the amount of plastic surgery she has pumped in her face is astounding. Why did she do it?”

A user shared an image of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina Kaif and commented, “It seems the plastic surgery doctor is a big fan of Salman Khan.” The tweet pointed to the fact that both actors have reportedly dated Khan in the past, which seems like an absolutely irrelevant argument.

Pankaj asked, “Who says you look good after surgery?” He pointed out that Kaif had got surgery done on her face, her dialogue delivery looked artificial and so did she.

Hitakshi Buch tweeted that if Kaif had gone for plastic surgery, she would not look good. The fan liked her better before.

Why Trolls Should Leave Public Personalities Alone

In most cases, plastic surgery is an elective procedure that a person chooses to get done. One might not have their desired features, have been body-shamed throughout their childhood, or simply want to turn into another person like Sahar Tabar, who wanted to look like Angelina Jolie. This might have been an outward display of an inner struggle, but public ridicule does nothing but damage a person’s sense of self-worth.

In many instances, people get the surgery done to overcome their insecurities about how their body. While we can write at length about self-love and positive body image, not every person has the tools to fight their insecurities. Some might even have body dysmorphic disorder, which they need professional help for.

This affects actors even harder as they are under constant pressure to look young, fit, and stylish. Even on their worst days, they might have to face hundreds of people and pose for the camera. If an actor chooses to alter a feature that makes them feel happy about themselves, shouldn’t we leave them alone? It is after all, for them and their near and dear ones to intervene and reflect upon.
