In the women's 78kg division of the Commonwealth Games, Indian judoka Tulika Maan gave it her best but fell short against Scotland's Sarah Adlington in the final. She had to settle for a silver medal.
The 22-year-old, a four-time national champion, fell behind early in the competition but quickly defeated Sydnee Andrews of New Zealand by doing a "Ippon" in the semifinal round. This is India's third Judo medal at the main competition. On Monday, L Shushila Devi and Vijay Kumar won silver and bronze in the women's 48 kg and men's 60 kg events, respectively. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Judo Player, Tulika Maan on winning Silver Medal at Birmingham CWG 2022.

Background
Tulika Maan was born on 9 September 1998. The Indian judoka has won numerous gold medals in senior national competitions in India. Maan has also won a junior national silver medal in India. Tulika has taken part in the IJF World Tour from 2019. At the Asian Open in Taipei, she took home the bronze medal. She won the Commonwealth Championships in Jaipur in 2018. She made her competitive debut at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest and participated in the Worlds in Tokyo. She won the Commonwealth title in Walsall in 2019. Sharma Jiwan Kumar is her trainer.

Her Achievements:
Gold Medal at South Asian Games,2019, Gold Medal at Commonwealth Championship, 2019. The CWG silver medallist was not very much interested in studies and told her mother after she passed the class 10th exams that this was not her calling. She started to focus on her judo from there and continued to win medals. "Actually, I am not really good at my studies. After finishing my 10th standard, I told my mom that I don’t want to continue studying further as I have bigger plans to achieve in the sport. And years have passed and my college (DDU Gorakhpur University) supports me a lot," she was quoted as saying on fistosports.com. The 23-year-old took up judo to pass time but after 2017, when she found a good coach in Yashpal Solanki, she started taking it seriously and worked very hard on her game. As a result, she is a silver medallist today at CWG.
