The Indian-origin astronaut, Sunita Williams is set for another space mission with NASA’s Boeing Starliner. One of the most accomplished astronauts globally, Williams is a United States Navy graduate who previously held the record for the highest number of spacewalks by a woman and the most spacewalk time for a woman.

Sunita Williams is all set to embark on her third space mission via NASA’s Boeing Starliner capsule. On her previous space missions, the 58-year-old astronaut carried her lucky charm the Bhagavad Gita which kept her company throughout her record-breaking days in outer space. However, this time, she has revealed that she will be carrying the idol of Lord Ganesha as her “good luck charm” on the commercial crew flight.

Making India and the world proud, Sunita Williams is one of the most renowned astronauts globally. She was chosen by NASA in 1998 after a flourishing career as a US Naval pilot.
On December 9, 2006, Williams embarked on her first-ever space mission which stretched till June 22, 2007. She created history by recording a spacewalk of 29 hours and 17 minutes which rewarded her with the title of the most spacewalks by a woman and the most spacewalk time for a woman. However, it was soon broken by Peggy Whitson in 2008. Sunita Williams began her second space mission on July 14, 2012, concluding it on November 18, 2012.

All About Sunita Williams’ Boeing Starliner Mission
NASA’s Boeing Starliner was scheduled to leave for space on May 7, 2024. However, due to a major glitch in the spacecraft, the mission has been postponed. Astronauts (Foods Avoided By Astronauts) Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams were ready to take off with their seatbelts strapped on when the mission was aborted. In a blog post by the space agency, they announced, “Nasa’s Boeing Crew Flight Test now is targeted to launch no earlier than 6:16 pm EDT Friday, May 17.”
