Sakat Chauth 2024 Significance

There is a legendary story about why Sakat Chaith is celebrated. According to the Hindu scriptures, once a blind woman used to dedicatedly worship Lord Ganesha. Her devotion impressed Lord Ganesha so much that he came down to her and asked her to wish for something and that he would fulfil it for her.

The old woman asked for time till the next morning to decide on a wish. She went to her son and daughter-in-law to ask what they wanted but they asked for wealth and a son respectively. After being fed up with their selfish wishes, she asked the Lord to grant her a wealthy life, a healthy body, eyesight and a grandson.
