Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday July 13, 2023 was conferred the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, France’s highest civilian and military honour. The award was bestowed upon him by the French President Emmanuel Macron that made Prime Minister Modi the first ever Indian premiere to receive such an honour. Along with this, Prime Minister Modi also joined the ranks of other very prominent world leaders who have been awarded this honour.
According to a statement issued by the Union Ministry of External Affairs, “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, France's highest award, on 13 July 2023, by H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France. The Prime Minister thanked President Macron for this singular honour on behalf of the people of India.”

The Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour is one of the many coveted honours and international awards being bestowed upon our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Legion of Honour is the highest French decoration that is given to the most deserving citizens in all fields of work. It has been conferred upon prominent people and leaders for two centuries now.
It was established by the former French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the year 1802 and is divided into five degrees out of which our Prime mInister has received the highest degree called the Grand Cross.
