OpenAI Launched GPT-4o: New Features, Changes, Free Or Paid? Here’s All The Details

GPT-4o Features

The newest flagship model of OpenAI, GPT-4o is much faster and improved. As per OpenAI’s “Hello GPT-4o” post, here are GPT-4o’s best new features:

• Multimodal Input and Output: GPT-4o can handle text, audio, image, and video inputs, and generate text, audio, and image outputs. 
• Real-Time Audio Response: The model can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds. This rapid response time is similar to human conversation.
• Improved Multilingual and Vision Capabilities: GPT-4o shows significant improvements in understanding and generating text in non-English languages.
• Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness: GPT-4o is 2x faster and 50% cheaper in the API compared to GPT-4 Turbo, making it more accessible and cost-effective for developers and users.
• Integrated Model for Enhanced Context Understanding: Unlike previous models of ChatGPT that used separate components for different tasks (e.g., transcribing audio to text, processing text, converting text to audio), GPT-4o integrates all these functionalities into a single neural network. This allows it to better understand context, tone, multiple speakers, and background noises.

GPT-4o Release Date

OpenAI introduced the GPT-4o model on May 13, 2024, as they posted a video on X captioned, "Say hello to GPT-4o, our new flagship model that can reason across audio, vision, and text in real-time. Text and image input is rolling out today in API and ChatGPT with voice and video in the coming weeks.”

As mentioned, the text and image input of the GPT-4o model is already available, while the new version of Voice Mode will be available in alpha for ChatGPT Plus users in the coming weeks.  

Is GPT-4o Free Or Paid?

GPT-4o's text and image capabilities are already available in the ChatGPT interface and it is completely free. OpenAI has also mentioned that in upcoming updates, the AI model will be able to mimic human cadences in its verbal responses and try to detect people's moods as well.

How To Use GPT-4o?

The new GPT-4o model has already been integrated into the ChatGPT interface. To use it, simply interact with ChatGPT as you normally would, and the model will utilise GPT-4o's capabilities.
