Nirmala Sitharaman Education and Personal Life
Born on 18 August 1959 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Sitharaman's journey to the corridors of power has been nothing less than inspiring. She is born to Narayanan Sitharaman, a railways employee, and Savitri, a homemaker. She comes from a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family with roots traced to Musiri, Tiruchirappalli, Thiruvenkadu, Thanjavur and Salem districts.
Dr Sitharaman's academic sojourn extended from Madras and Tiruchirappalli to the illustrious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. She completed her Bachelor's in Economics from the Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in Tiruchirappalli and went on to secure her Master's and M.Phil in Economics from JNU.
She met her future husband, Parakala Prabhakar, at JNU. Though the two had differing political ideologies, Prabhakar leaned towards Congress versus Sitharaman's affiliation with the BJP they got hitched in 1986. They have a daughter, Parakala Vangmayi.

Nirmala Sitharaman Political Career
In her previous position, Sitharaman was Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and was involved with corporate affairs. Her political journey also included a stint as a member of the National Commission for Women from 2003 to 2005 and as a spokesperson for the BJP.

She owns 315 g of gold and 2 kg of silver. She doesn't own a car, but a Bajaj Chetak scooter is there in her name. She has non-agricultural land in the vicinity of Hyderabad worth nearly INR 16 lakhs. The value of her immovable property has been declared at INR 1,87,60,200. She has declared personal loans of 3,50,000 and 30,44,838 rupees.
She declared in her Rajya Sabha electoral affidavit that she had cash of the value of INR 17,200 and a bank Fixed Deposit of INR 45,04,479.
