New Aadhaar App: The Indian government has introduced a transformative new Aadhaar application that changes how citizens verify their identity. This innovative solution lets users authenticate their Aadhaar details digitally, eliminating the longstanding requirement for physical cards or photocopies.
Union Minister for Information and Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the application through a video demonstration shared on X (formerly Twitter), showcasing its advanced capabilities, including Face ID authentication and secure data-sharing mechanisms that operate only with explicit user consent.
"Aadhaar verification is now as simple as making a UPI payment," Vaishnaw stated in his social media announcement.

Aadhaar App in Beta Testing
Currently, the app is in its beta testing phase and is being rolled out to early adopters, including registered participants of the Aadhaar Samvaad event. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has stated that feedback from these users and ecosystem partners will help improve the app before it becomes publicly available.
“Based on the feedback received from users and ecosystem partners, UIDAI will soon make it accessible to all,” the agency confirmed.

Top 10 Features of the New Aadhaar App
Selective Data Sharing
Users can securely share only necessary information with explicit consent, maintaining control over personal data.
QR Code Verification
The application incorporates QR code functionality similar to the widely adopted UPI payment system. Soon, Aadhaar verification QR codes will be deployed at critical authentication points, including hotels, airports, and railway stations, significantly simplifying identity confirmation procedures.
When identification is requested, users simply scan the Aadhaar verification QR code using the application. The system instantly verifies identity through facial recognition technology, enabling the secure transfer of Aadhaar details directly from the user's device.
Paperless Operation
Eliminates the requirement for printed or scanned Aadhaar copies in daily transactions. Digital verification through the application offers multiple advantages. It eliminates reliance on physical Aadhaar copies that can be compromised through loss, theft, or tampering. The application ensures that personal information is shared securely in real-time, minimising risks of duplication or unauthorised use.
The facial authentication mechanism further strengthens security by adding a biometric verification layer, ensuring only the legitimate Aadhaar account holder can authorise information transfers.
Facial Recognition
This biometric verification system allows users to share their Aadhaar information securely without presenting a physical card. Citizens no longer need to carry paper Aadhaar documents that are vulnerable to loss, damage, or potential misuse.
This advanced version creates a more secure and convenient verification method for various scenarios. Whether checking into accommodations, boarding transportation, or confirming identity at security checkpoints, the application facilitates a seamless, paperless process.
Physical Copy Elimination
Removes the need to surrender Aadhaar photocopies at commercial establishments or transportation checkpoints.
