Manu Bhaker Bronze Medal
Slashing down the stereotypical “women cannot play sports,” Manu Bhaker has become the first Indian in the Paris Olympics 2024 to bag a medal. The Indian shooter also stole the spot of the first Indian woman to win a medal for shooting in the Olympics as she grabbed the bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol final. The 22-year-old shooter finished on 221.7 points. She secured a 10.3 on her final gunfire while the silver medalist Yeji Kim scored a 10.5. She missed the silver medal with a minuscule 0.1 points. Nonetheless, she has made India immensely proud with this record-breaking victory.

On Saturday, July 21, 2024, Manu Bhaker finished at the third spot with 580 points, paving her path for the final on Sunday. According to a video on ANI's Twitter, Bhaker's father Ram Kishan Bhaker, exclaimed, "The entire country is proud of Manu, two of her events are remaining we expect her to perform better. Manu got a lot of support from the government and the federation. She could achieve this only because of the blessings of the people of the country. This is a huge achievement."

Additionally, India's Arjun Babuta has qualified for the final round of men’s 10m air rifle shooting. Bhaker’s victory amounts to five shooting medals by Indians. Previously, champions who grabbed medals in the competition include Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore who got silver in the Athens Olympics 2004, Bindra bagging gold in Beijing 2008, Gagan Narang who grabbed bronze in London 2012, and Vijay Kumar winning silver in London 2012.
