DIY: Five Supereasy Table Coasters That You Can Make Using Waste Items

There are a few important house accessories that we use on a daily basis but somehow forget to renew or buy like other items. We are talking about coasters, a very vital household accessory that protects our furniture from damage. Not only are they used to keep furniture fresh-looking, but the elegant coasters also enhances house beauty by adding an extra pop of colour. Several designs and patterns never fails to complement a room and catch the attention. If you for some reason haven’t invested in a beautiful set of coasters, try these easy DIYs that mostly use the waste item to make stunning coasters.

Jar Lid Coasters

Jar Lid Coasters

  • Take a wide-mouth jar. Trace the lid onto cardboard. Cut out the board in a circle.
  • Using the same jar lid, trace circles onto a textured sheet or fabric of your choice. Cut and paste on the top of the board piece. Let it dry completely.
  • With the help of rubber, the solution pastes the finished board piece inside the jar lid. Allow 15-20 minutes to dry.
  • Apply a layer of rubber solution to the top side of your board piece. Allow 10-15 minutes to dry.

Scrabble Tile Coaster

  • Take a thin sunmica board or cardboard. Using the rubber solution paste each letter next to each other. Apply glue in between each letter so they would stick together strongly. Keep only four-four tiles vertically and horizontally.
  • Cut the sunmica board or cardboard roughly to the size of the coaster.
  • Make six pieces. Once each one is done, stack together and keep under a heavy book to ensure they lay and dry flat.
  • Allow the finished pieces to dry for 1 good hour. If there are undone edges cut using sharp scissors or knife.

POP Coasters

POP Coasters

  • For 6 coaters, take around 25-300 grams of plaster of Paris. In a bowl mix pop powder and water into a thick consistency.
  • Take old plastic lids. Apply grease inside and pour the pop solution. You can also add different acrylic colour or glitters.
  • Take old buttons, small pieces of tiles, mirror pieces or small stones and place on the upper layer of pop. One once even using a scale.
  • Let it dry for at least 24 hours. Lastly, take out using a knife.

Ceramic Tile Coasters

Ceramic Tile Coasters

  • Clean the pieces of tiles using rubbing alcohol. Cut any decorative or textured paper into 4 x 4 squares.
  • Apply rubber solution to the ceramic tile using a small paintbrush. Avoid using hands.
  • With clean hands, place the paper on the centre of the tile and remove curls using your fingers.
  • Place a book or something heavy on top of the tile and allow it to dry.

Ice Cream Stick Coaster

  • Wash the sticks using water and leave them to dry.
  • Take 10 sticks and glue them closely next to each other. These will the base of the coaster.
  • Take another batch of sticks, around seven and glue on top of the prepared base. Leave to dry and it's done!
