Is Public Display Of Affection Good For Indians’ Health?

Indians are one of the most expressive people on the planet. But Public Display of Affection is such a no-no that it affects our mental health.

no kissing allowed

Indians are one of the most expressive people on the planet. We express our rage freely on the roads, we go pee-pee and relieve ourselves freely in public, we cry our hearts out when things get a bit too much but when it comes to expressing love without restraint, everybody goes hawwww! PDA or Public Display of Affection is such a no-no that it affects our mental health. Oh yes! We love watching Bollywood stars kissing on-screen but if we saw them doing the same in public for real then its ‘chhee-cheee thoo thoo’ and oh-so unsanskaari that aunties and uncles could get a heart attack.

Newlyweds Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have been coochie cooing in public ever since they came out as a couple and while this may not be a big deal in the West, Indian janta always has words of advisory lest they end up hurting someone’s feelings. Priyanka’s latest Instagram post showing a cosy smooch with Nick has people telling her to stop as she is doing something wrong, that she has nothing better to do than upload kissing pics, making comparisons with porn movies and what not! Clearly people keep getting offended and I must say that in the interest of the health of Indians, these young chhichhora couples should stop doing it. What if people die of shock? Haaye tauba!

Dangers Of Immoral Adulthood PDA

But who am I to blame the young Bollywood couples of doing such hurtful PDA when even the seniors can’t resist doing it? Tsk tsk, setting such a bad example for the kids and kidults of our great nation. Even Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan could not control themselves and ended up kissing each other on the lips at an award function once. Didn’t they think about how mentally damaged Aradhya would grow up to be after seeing that? And remember the furore that followed after Richard Gere decided to be affectionate with Shilpa Shetty? I am sure a rise in blood pressure must have killed a few people at least.

The funny part is we have an option to look away when two people are just minding their business and expressing love. It’s not like the couples invite us to comment on their PDA session but we can’t because our ‘sanskaari genes’ will not allow us to do so. So it is our moral duty to abuse them (using unsanskaari language), bitch about them and hell, even bash them up because that sets things right! Remember the Kolkata couple that was beaten up by uncles for hugging in the metro train?

So all said and done, it is solely in the hands of the couples (who decide to show some love when they feel like it), to take care of our health and not subject us to the horrors of displaying their affection in the public. Because romance is only meant for closed rooms. Period.
