Fawad Khan is immensely popular in India, despite the ban on Pakistani actors and artists after the Pulwama Attack. From the Pakistani show Zindagi Gulzar Hai to his stellar performance in his Bollywood debut film Khoobsurat, Khan has made a name for himself in the acting industry. His performance in Kapoor & Sons as a closeted gay man was also highly appreciated.

Recently, Khan’s Pakistani film The Legend Of Maula Jatt is making waves in his home country as well as overseas. The action period drama which was released on October 13, 2022 has crossed the ₹200 crore mark at the worldwide box office, becoming the first film from Pakistan to ever achieve this feat.

Release in India

The Indian cinema goers have been eagerly awaiting the release of The Legend Of Maula Jatt in the country. A source told Bollywood Hungama that the movie is expected to release in cinema halls in India on December 23. “Zee Studios has backed the film and are working towards making sure it happens. A clearer picture will emerge in the next week as to whether the film will make it in cinemas, and if it will on December 23 or some other date,” the source added.

Release Date Clashes with Other Movies

However, if The Legend Of Maula Jatt lands in cinemas on December 23, it will clash with hyped films like Cirkus that are said to be great entertainers of the season. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the Ranveer Singh-starrer is being touted as a box office success. An industry expert also told Bollywood Hungama that there is already a clash for screens between Cirkus and Avatar: The Way Of Water, which is set to release on December 16. “Now that The Legend Of Maula Jatt might also jump into the fray, it’ll be interesting to see how things unfold.”

Reportedly, regional films will also clash with the Fawad Khan-starrer such as the three Bengali films– Haami 2, Projapoti and Hatyapuri. Meanwhile, the Assamese film Rajneeti Part 1 with actor-singer Zubeen Garg in a titular role will also release and give tough competition to other films.

The Legend Of Maula Jatt is a remake of the 1979 cult Pakistani classic movie Maula Jatt. It narrates the tale of a local folk hero named Maula Jatt, who takes on his archnemesis and the leader of a brutal clan, Noori Natt. Besides Fawad Khan, it also stars Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malik.

The release of the Pakistani film is significant after the total ban of Pakistani films and actors by The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA).
