Aditya Dhar’s highly anticipated action thriller, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, has had everyone talking since the paid previews dropped on March 18, 2026. Audiences are heaping praise on the powerhouse performances from Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun. However, if there is one element truly dominating the post-film discussions, it is the devastating backstory of Jaskirat Singh Rangi.
If you watched the first film, you likely viewed Ranveer Singh’s character simply as Hamza Ali Mazari, a hardened criminal operating out of Pakistan. ‘Dhurandhar 2’ completely shatters that illusion. The sequel pulls back the curtain, revealing that Jaskirat was not always a ruthless covert operative. He was an ordinary man who lost absolutely everything.

The film introduces Jaskirat as the only son of a modest, tight-knit Punjabi family. Before the chaos, he was simply a young man undergoing training with the Indian military. His father proudly served in the Indian Army, his mother happily managed their home, and he shared a close bond with his two sisters.
Director Aditya Dhar takes time to show us Jaskirat’s ordinary, peaceful life. We see him happily busy making arrangements for his sister Jasleen's upcoming wedding. But this peaceful domestic life crumbles in the blink of an eye.
Tragedy strikes when a corrupt, powerful politician targets the family purely out of spite for the father’s military service. The politician's goons kidnap one of Jaskirat’s sisters. Springing into action, Jaskirat fights back fiercely and manages to rescue her. Sadly, his bravery is no match for entrenched political corruption.
Because of the politician's immense influence, Jaskirat faces a military discharge and ends up serving time in prison on trumped-up charges. With Jaskirat locked away, the politician's men unleash hell on his defenceless family. They murder his father, and brutally assault and kill one of his sisters. This unimaginable trauma leaves a permanent scar on Jaskirat, and Ranveer Singh perfectly captures that lingering grief and regret in every single frame.

Sitting in a prison cell, and reportedly facing a death sentence, Jaskirat burns with a desire for vengeance. The horrific murders of his family members expose him to the deeper terror networks operating in the shadows.
The Indian intelligence community quickly notices the immense rage boiling inside this former soldier. Enter Ajay Sanyal (played brilliantly by R Madhavan), the Chief of the Intelligence Bureau. Sanyal visits Jaskirat in prison and offers him a dangerous path to redemption: join Operation Dhurandhar.
Unable to let his family's killers walk free, Jaskirat agrees. He vows to hunt down every single person responsible for the murders. That fateful night in the prison cell marks the death of Jaskirat Singh Rangi and the birth of Hamza.

From this turning point, Jaskirat’s thirst for justice drives the entire narrative of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. He adopts his new identity, moves across the border, and begins his bloody climb to the top of Lyari's underworld.
The film beautifully illustrates how horrific circumstances can forge an ordinary man into an unstoppable force. Jaskirat's emotional baggage elevates the movie from a standard spy thriller into a gripping tale of loss, sheer courage, and ultimate revenge.
