Whether you are working at the office or your kids are studying at school, a common issue that drives us crazy is an ink stain on clothes. It destroys the appearance of all kinds of clothes, including a pair of jeans, shirt, tops, coats, saree, suits, etc.

However, did you know a few home products can help you get rid of those stubborn stains in a matter of time? But before we proceed, one thing that you should keep in mind is to avoid washing and drying the cloth before experimenting to remove the stain. The drying process makes it more difficult to get rid of the speck.

How To Remove Ink Stains From Clothes

1) Do not let the stain sit for long, or it may leave a mark forever.

2) When removing the stain, one must keep an old cotton cloth behind the clothing to prevent it from running to another part of the garment

3) Do not experiment with delicate fabrics like silk or chiffon. It is better to get them dry cleaned.

4) If you are using bleach or any harmful chemicals, it is better to remain cautious and use gloves and glasses to protect the hands and eyes.

5) Do not apply any chemical to the front part of the cloth. It is the biggest cleaning mistake. You must apply it on the back to prevent fading of the fabric.

Tips To Remove Ink Stains From Clothes

Use Rubbing Alcohol

Before starting the process, put a clean towel or cotton cloth below the stain. Take a few drops of rubbing alcohol on another clean tissue or cotton and dab the stain with it. This dilutes the speck, making it easier to get rid of it.

If the cloth piece beneath gets wet and discoloured, you must shift the stain over a cleaner side. It will prevent your favourite clothes from further getting blotched due to the leaching of the ink. Once you have gotten rid of the stain, you can wash your clothes in the machine.

If you are trying to get rid of a ballpoint pen ink speck, apply regular liquid detergent onto the area after dabbing it with rubbing alcohol. Allow it to settle for at least 5 minutes and wash the cloth.

Use Vinegar/ Lemon Juice

Make a mixture of liquid laundry detergent and lemon juice. Apply it on the stain and let it sit there for a while. After a couple of hours, you can wash the cloth in cold water.

If you are using vinegar, take two parts of it and mix with three parts of cornstarch to make a paste. Once the paste is ready, you can apply it to the stain and let it dry. After30 minutes, you can wash the shirt, top or jeans in the washing machine.

Use Baking Soda

Take three tablespoons of baking soda and mix it with a tablespoon of water. Apply the mixture on the speck and let it sit for a few minutes. Take an old toothbrush and gently rub the paste on the stain in circular motions.

When you see that the blotch is disappearing, you can leave the paste on the stain for 5 or 10 minutes. Dip the toothbrush in vinegar and rub the stained area. Once the stain is removed, you can wash the cloth with your hands or in a washing machine.

Use Nail Polish Remover

The nail polish remover has acetone that works wonders with ink and other permanent stains. However, to ensure the safety of your clothes, it is better to try on an area that is less visible to people when you wear the top or shirt. If your clothes do not get harmed or fade, you can use the remover on the speck.

Soak a cotton ball in the nail paint remover and dab the stained area with it. Keep cotton or soaking cloth beneath to catch the leaking ink and prevent it from further staining your clothes. Once you see that stain is coming off, you can regularly wash your clothes.

Use Milk

This is one of the simplest procedures to get rid of ink stains on clothes. All you have to do is soak the stained area in the milk until the ink gets dissolved in the liquid.

Milk contains fat, and pigmentation in inks is soluble in lipophilic material. Therefore, it can work like a wonder on recent ink stains. You will have to keep the speck soaked in milk for at least 30 minutes.

Use Hairspray

Hairspray contains alcohol which dissolves the stain. You have to keep cloth tissues beneath the clothing and gently spray the area with the product. Use a clean tissue or paper towel to dab the area until you see the speck disappearing.

Once you are satisfied with the result, wash the clothing in the washing machine or with your hands. However, one must read the content of the hairspray. Since a large amount of alcohol content harms the hair, the hairsprays come with no or little amount of alcohol added to them. In such a case, this trick will not be successful.
