Indian Air Force To Induct Women To Fly Light Combat Helicopter

On October 3, the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully induced the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), ‘Prachand’. After this successful induction, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to induct women officers to fly these choppers.

In a report, IAF officials said that women officers will be appointed for the fleet of Light Combat helicopters and lady officers are already flying the Advanced Heavy Lifter (ALH) helicopters. Few of them are being selected for induction into the fleet.

Women To be Induced To Fly Light Combat Helicopter

IAF chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari said, “We as an organisation are gender agnostic and recognise merit and performance above everything else. A high ratio of women officers in the IAF is testimony to our commitment to providing equal opportunity and a level playing field for every individual irrespective of gender.”

For the first time, the Indian Air Force has announced that women candidates will be joining the force at the personnel below officer ranks level. Before this, the Navy and Army announced the appointment of women at this level.

Prachand

Prachand (Prachand means fierce) was inaugurated into the Air Force at Jodhpur air base in an event attended by Defence minister Rajnath Singh, CDS General Anil Chauhan, and IAF chief Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.

Prachand can be operated both day and night, and it can hit an enemy target with precision. Along with this, it is suitable for all kinds of operations and can work in all possible conditions. The helicopter can also be deployed in high-altitude bunker-busting operations, counter-insurgency operations in the jungles and urban environments, and for supporting ground forces.

This helicopter is quite important at this point when India and China are locked in a military stand-off at certain friction points in eastern Ladakh.
