Why Do We Make Clay Gharaunda On Diwali?

There is a mythological story behind this clay Gharaunda on Diwali. When Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshman returned to Ayodhya on the new moon day of Kartik month, people lit ghee Diyas in their homes to welcome them. Many people also built earthen houses on that day and decorated them in many ways. Many people keep sweets, flowers, Kheel and batasha in that clay house. People make these earthen houses with their hands using clay. However, some people also prefer to buy it from the market. It is considered very auspicious to make earthen houses on Diwali. People believe that the goddess Lakshmi resides in these clay houses. Besides, it also brings happiness and prosperity into the house. Along with their houses, people decorate these clay houses with colours and lights on Diwali (centre table decoration ideas for diwali).

Why Is Rangoli Made Along With Gharaunda?

Mostly unmarried ladies of the house build these earthen houses and rangoli at the entrance of the house. It is believed that on the day of Diwali (diwali shopping checklist), people clean their houses and make rangoli in front of their houses. Similarly, rangoli is made in front of an earthen house too. Rice and wheat flour are used to make rangoli. Apart from these colourful papers and flowers are used for decorating Gharonda.
