In an exclusive interview with News18, Kajol opened up about the script of Salaam Venky and why she has to blackmail her kids to watch it. These days, the actor is busy promoting her upcoming film helmed by Revathy. It is set to hit theatres on December 9.
‘Fabulous Script’

Kajol said that she found the script to be fabulous. However, it seemed a bit heavy. From the trailer, it's evident that the actor is playing a mother to a terminally ill son. She is always running up and about to make her child’s life big instead of trying to lengthen it in vain (Zindagi badi honi chahie, lambi nahi - a famous quote from late actor Rajesh Khanna’s movie).
Since the movie is an emotional ride, Kajol thought it would make her face a ‘personal fear.’ She added, “But I also knew that I would regret it if I didn’t do the film. I knew that Revathy ma’am would turn the script into such a fine film.”
She is really happy now that she did the film.
Kajol said she had watched other films directed by Revathy, including Phir Milenge. She thought to herself, “What a sensitively handled film!” She thinks it was a well-balanced film that sparked a different conversation altogether.
The 48-year-old actor wondered, “How wonderful it would be to get a chance to work with her (Revathy) because she’s just awesome.”
Kajol said that it is Revathy who is the star of the film and not the actors. She has outlived Kajol’s expectations.
‘Salaam Venky Taught Me To Be Fearless’
Speaking about the effect of working in Salaam Venky, Kajol said it made her fearless. She did not want to do the film because she was scared as the script revolves around a mother whose child has a terminal disease.
“I would tell myself - Aisa sochna bhi mat. But going to work and facing that fear every day made me stop getting scared of it.”

She said she feels the openness with her children, and they feel it too.
