A local doctor named Brendan Ferrao made a horrifying discovery in Mumbai last Wednesday, according to Times of India (TOI) reports. Ferrao bit into an ice cream and found a human finger inside! The ice cream, manufactured by Laxmi Ice Creams in Ghaziabad, had a manufacturing date of May 11th, 2024 and an expiry date of May 10th, 2025. Police suspect contamination may have occurred during the packaging process.

A human finger was found in online-ordered ice cream in Mumbai.
"Maine ek app se teen cone ice creams order ki thi. Unmein se ek Yummo brand ki butterscotch ice cream thi. Usse aadha khane ke baad, mujhe mooh mein ek solid piece mehsoos hua. Mujhe laga ki… pic.twitter.com/vOEhd2ukRg
Ferrao recounted the ordeal to authorities, describing how he and his sister placed an online order for three Yummo mango ice creams and 1 kilogramme of besan (chickpea flour). However, their delivery contained only two mango ice creams and a surprise butterscotch one, the one harbouring the unwelcome finger.
Expressing his shock, Ferrao informed media outlets that he felt "traumatised and felt like throwing up" after biting into the ice cream. He immediately contacted Yummo, where a customer care executive, as quoted by The Times of India, requested order details and a picture of the product's packaging information. While the company initially offered assurances, Ferrao received no further communication. This lack of response led him to escalate the matter to the Malad police.
"I preserved the finger in ice and brought it to Malad police station along with the wrapper," Ferrao disclosed, according to The Times of India.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson from Yummo asserted, "We are a law-abiding company and shall fully cooperate and support authorities in investigating the matter thoroughly," according to DNA India.A uthorities, led by DCP Anand Bhoite, have filed a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 272, 273, and 336 of the Indian Penal Code against individuals associated with Yummo.
Senior inspector Ravi Adane stated that the severed finger has been dispatched to the state forensic science laboratory for examination, alongside planned enquiries at the manufacturing facility and with company officials.
Dr Shailesh Mohite, a forensic specialist at civic-run Cooper Hospital, offered insights into potential forensic avenues, according to Mumbai Mirror. "If it is a human finger," he said, "experts may be able to ascertain the age and gender of the person involved." However, a plastic surgeon, Dr Nilesh Satbhai from Global Hospital, cautioned that despite preservation in freezing temperatures, reattachment of the digit is improbable due to potential contamination and processing complications.
