Rudrani Chettri Raised Awareness About Menstruation Among Transgender Men

HerZindagi.com and OnlyMyHealth.com jointly hosted a period party to honour menstrual hygiene day. The event aimed to eliminate the stigma associated with menstruation. With Period Party, we want to dispel myths and prejudices related to menstruation while honouring the normal body process. The goal was to promote open discussion about periods, which have long been stigmatised, raise knowledge of menstruation hygiene and products, and break rooted taboos. And one of our guest lists included the very talented Rudrani Chettri.

Rudrani Chettri is a transgender rights activist and founder member of Mitr Trust. A transwoman and dedicated activist who shared her experience and challenges faced by the transgender community in raising awareness about menstruation. At the event, she talked about her organisation Mitr's efforts to promote menstrual hygiene and work with trans-men to break the patriarchal structure they are conditioned in.

Rudrani Chettri On Menstruation In Transgenders

Rudrani Chettri (A Day In The Life Of Rudrani Chettri, A Trans Woman Doing Her Bit For Her Community In More Ways Than One) is working with a shelter, a home to transmen. Rudrani Chettri shared that periods are one of the biggest challenges she has faced with them. They still think that it's a girl thing. In their shelter home, there is another trans woman who has taken up the role of dealing with the menstruating trans men. So whenever they need a sanitary pad they come only to her because they just don't want anyone to know that they're in this phase. But soon they will have a pad machine in the shelter home. She thinks that everyone needs to understand that there are different identities that we need to respect because they are also going through this same situation. And they don't have resources and support, so for them, we need to do something rather than just being ignorant.

She also said that their shelter home has been raided by the police twice or thrice with the idea that this is a ministry for social justice program. She also said that yes there are problems but she can't shut down this shelter home else they may have to go home which will be bad for them because most of them have been raped by their fathers and brothers.
